Friends, this morning Wheat Ridge residents awoke to sad news. Many of us in the fourth district of Wheat Ridge live just steps away from Clear Creek or, at the very least, enjoy the parks and trails along its edges.
I read this story first thing this morning, with a heavy and concerned heart, as I was getting my girls ready for school. My husband Sam asked, "What can we do?" I told him this is one of the reasons I am running for City Council. I want to be in the conversation to develop solutions on how to deal with Wheat Ridge’s safety. I believe there are holistic and comprehensive ways to discuss solutions to the issues impacting our community such as safety, homelessness, and access to mental health care. I want to hear from you, members of this community, about the resources available for dealing with these issues as well as resources that you think are missing. Throughout my campaign for Wheat Ridge City Council, I will be visiting with healthcare providers, community organizations, first responders, teachers, and anyone else I can to learn about the resources available and where there are gaps impacting the community. The only way to move forward on these issues is to bring together the community to share existing resources and brainstorm where work needs to be done. Please comment below or message me with your ideas and if you know of resources in your neighborhood – I would be very interested in meeting you and learning more.
Thank you to the first responders and police for their help and thorough investigation into this matter.
